National rollout of e-mail communication for hospital notification of Patient Adverse Events (PAEs) recall closure

From 1 March 2021, following a successful pilot

25 February 2021

From 1 March 2021, hospitals will receive an email for PAEs summarising the NBL results and recall closure, in place of the formal recall letter.  This will improve the efficiency of communications, for PAEs, to our hospital customers which in turn, will allow hospitals to close recalls promptly.

Where we have a generic email address for transfusion laboratories we will include this, as well as sending to the Consultant haematologist, TLM and TP. If you don't already use an generic email address please organise one, and send details to your Customer Service Manager when set up.

Information on recalls can be found in DAT2939 on our component recall page

Background

The decision to roll this out is the result of a successful pilot, which focussed on providing teaching hospitals with results, from investigations of returned units implicated in PAE / transfusion reactions (or associated units if index unit not available), more efficiently by sending a summary report of the culture results directly to Hospital Consultant, Transfusion Lab Manager and Transfusion Practitioner via email.

The process proved time and cost efficient, and resulted in a faster turn round time of closing the incident.

Please contact your Customer Service Manager if you have any queries.
