New blood pack validations starting mid-August 2023

The validation work for the new blood pack will start mid-August when small numbers of packs (approximately 100) from our three current suppliers will be distributed to hospitals.

This means you may see blood packs that have a slightly different appearance to those you normally see.

All packs have met our specification, have minimal cosmetic changes and will not affect the function or safety of the blood components issued.

This year, for the first time, the tender process is being conducted collaboratively between IBTS (Ireland), NIBTS (Northern Ireland), WBS (Wales), SNBTS (Scotland) ARCBS (Australia) and NZBS (New Zealand), and we're pleased to be leading on this work.
