Full Rh phenotypes are not required on all red cell units

ABO and D blood grouping are mandatory tests performed on every blood donation and all red cell units have this information on the label. 

We also carry out additional discretionary testing including extended Rh phenotype.

On occasion red cell units may be issued to hospitals without the full Rh phenotype on the label. Please note, these units meet the mandatory standards required and are suitable for use, so credits will not be issued for these units.
