Blood and blood components
NHSBT provides a range of components to hospitals for clinical use. We also supply to other customers providing non clinical components for research use.
All our blood centres are inspected by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and hold blood establishment status under the Blood Safety & Quality Regulations (BSQR) 2005.
We are inspected regularly by other accreditation bodies and undergo regular peer audit.
International Blood Group Reference Laboratory (IBGRL) research components
These are monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins which cover a range of specificities of interest to researchers and clinical scientists in the fields of immunology, haematology, cell biology and biochemistry.
We operate a tissue donation and banking programme and are the UK’s major provider of human tissue for transplant.
Tissue Services staff work closely with families, hospitals, health professionals and other services to raise awareness of tissue donation and maintain the highest standards in this life-saving field.
