Safe & Appropriate Use of Blood Components

This section gives information regarding the appropriate use of blood components.

Appropriate use of group AB - Methylene Blue Treated FFP
In 2007 supply of AB MBFFP reduced from 16.0% to 8.0%. Since October 2006 NHSBT has been closely monitoring the issue of AB MBFFP. These graphs (PowerPoint) show that the level of issue for group AB MBFFP is clearly unsustainable.

This letter (pdf) regarding the stocks of group AB MB FFP for paediatric use, was sent to hospitals on the 26th November 2007. It outlined the background to the situation and described a number of actions NHSBT felt obliged to take in order to safeguard stock.
