Additional Data Security Measures
We have introduced a number of additional measures to ensure that we comply with the latest government requirements for data security held on computers and web sites such as the National Comparative Audit.
- We avoid collecting information which will identify any one patient unless that information is essential for audit purposes. As a matter of course we do not collect Personal Identifiable Data beyond gender and year of birth.
- Information contributed to our audits by hospitals, using the web-based audit tool, is secure because our web tools carry a publicly-trusted Data Security Certificate.
- Information contributed by hospitals is processed and stored on computers with encrypted hard drives and memory sticks.
Hospitals taking part in the audit programme should be confident that we are fully compliant with the Department of Health’s requirements for data security.
- We are in the process of finalising an Information Governance Policy, which will be available on this website.

Downloadable Audit Slideshows
In the past we have been able to make slideshows available on this website, but we will no longer continue to provide this information. To encourage participation and facilitate discussion of the quality of transfusion practice we will begin to include the names of participating hospitals on the slideshows we produce. The slides can contain information which some hospitals will consider to be of a sensitive nature, so we have agreed not to make the slideshows publicly available.
For each of the audits the Project Groups produce a Microsoft PowerPoint slideshow which allows hospitals to compare their results to their regional peers as well as to the national findings. Slideshows are complete with speaker’s notes, which can sometimes aid presentation.
