SP-ICE – Specialist Services electronic reporting using the Sunquest ICE web browser
The purpose of the SP-ICE project is to deliver results electronically within one hour of authorisation to improve patient safety and NHS efficiency.

Red Cell Immunohaematology
RCI laboratories provide reference investigations of samples referred by external diagnostics laboratories for further investigation of serological problems. For supplies of the RCI reference request form 1A please contact your local RCI laboratory. This sample form gives advice on completion. RCI labs also investigate adverse transfusion reactions.
NBS Reagents
Provide a range of reagents for use in red cell serology grouping, screening and investigations.
Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (H&I)
The H&I laboratories provide services related to solid organ and stem cell transplantation, platelet immunology, the provision of HLA/HPA selected products, transfusion reactions, the investigation of HLA related disease associations and granulocyte immunology.
Haemopoietic Stem Cell Services (SCI)
The SCI laboratories provide services to support haemopoietic stem cell transplantation including collection, processing and cryopreservation of stem cells and cord blood cells.
Transfusion Microbiology
The National Transfusion Microbiology Laboratory provides reference, monitoring and epidemiological services to support other services within the NHSBT, including the investigation of suspected adverse transfusion reactions.
Tissue Services
In addition to running blood donation and banking services NHSBT operates a tissue donation and banking programme. Tissue Services staff work closely with families, hospitals, health professionals and other services to raise awareness of tissue donation and maintain the highest standards in this life-saving field.
The International Blood Group Reference Laboratory (IBGRL)
IBGRL and the Bristol Institute for Transfusion Science provide a reference and research service in the field of Transfusion Medicine.
