Blood Stocks Management Scheme (BSMS)

Each year we run roadshows with a programme of speakers from both Blood Services and Hospitals. They include lively workshops with topical take-home messages and actions for all laboratory staff.

Our roadshows for 2018 will be held in Birmingham, Sheffield and London. Dates and locations are being finalised and will be advertised here shortly, along details of the events and an application form.

We look forward to seeing you!

We regularly produce publications and scientific papers, and present data at regional and national meetings.

What we do

The scheme has been working with Blood Services and Hospitals within the UK and Republic of Ireland since 2001 with the aim of helping them to understand and improve blood inventory management across the whole supply chain.

Central to this is VANESA (the data management system) where hospital and blood service data is collected. Participants in the scheme can view their real time usage and wastage data and charts to identify where changes in practice could be made. This enables donor blood to be used effectively and appropriately, and helps to minimise wastage.
